I went in for an endscopy and came out pregnant

This blog is to capture my first pregnancy. It was a SURPRISE! But who doesn't love a surprise? I am very excited to get to know this new person growing inside of me and figure out what the heck I'm supposed to do as a pregnant lady and "Momma."

Brian, my husband, and I found out on Cinco de Mayo. I was having digestion "issues" and went to the hospital as scheduled for an endoscopy. (For those of you who don't know that's like a colonoscopy, but from the other end.) The nurses asked me if it was possible if I could be pregnant. I replied that it's always possible. I'm married and like my husband. The amount I was able to squeeze out probably measured to a tablespoon. Then they poked and proded me with an IV needle. Hate those things. We sat and waited for my turn. Brian was cranky probably because he'd had to take time off of work to sit there. A nurse who we hadn't seen before comes in and tells Brian he can go wait and that it'll only take about 10 minutes. We knew it was a short procedure, but it had to be longer than 10 minutes for the prep, poking, proding and clean up. Brian even asked if he'd have time to eat (another reason for his crankiness) and was told no, just a few minutes. He wandered off and three nurses came around the corner. One of them asked if Brian was my husband. I'd taken off my rings as per the instructions of the hospital for the endoscopy. Bewildered, I said "Yes... Why?" "Because, honey, you're pregnant" she said as she held up the paperwork. I grabbed it out of her hand and simultaneously clapped a hand over my mouth. The nurses asked if I was ok - I nodded - and explained that it's their procedure to have the male leave before they tell the woman she's pregant. I kept nodding and started crying. They asked if these were tears of joy. "Oh, yes!" One of them went to get Brian, telling him that I had something to tell him before I went in.

As he came around the corner the nurses scattered like chickens and he had an inkling. He saw my face and asked "Are you pregnant?" I nodded because the ability to speak was stuck in my throat. He got a bit teary himself and hugged me. He told the nurses that I'd been worried I couldn't get pregnant. This is true. We'd done things and never had a surprise in the last 9 years. And female health issues ran on my Mom's side involving baby making equipment. I vaguely remember hearing an "Ahhhh!" from the nurses before they closed the curtain to give us privacy.
